Stefanie and I have worked together over the past year at a couple of weddings and events and have become friends. She is the owner of Blueshoe Events and is an amazing wedding and event planner. Not only is she a great event planner, but she is a genuinely nice person as is her husband. I am so happy to have connected with her professionally and personally. So when she asked me to photograph her little family for their holiday card, I jumped at the chance. We ventured out in the cold one frozen Saturday in December. We dodged a pack of dogs (all without leashes) and forged a frozen stream to get these images. The threat of frostbite was all worth it to capture the three of them together. Most people think a session like this would be limited to couples that are just engaged, but that is not true. Married people are still in love and have a connection all there own. Every year is a different stage in a couple's relationship and capturing that time in photos will help them to always remember their journey together. Who knows where life will lead Stefanie, Dane and Bella. But one thing that is certain is that they will always have these images to remember this unique season of their lives.

So way back in November, I met one of my favorite families early in the morning for some fall family photos. It was a little chilly..um, let's just say there was frost on the ground. The kids and mom and dad jumped in and out of coats. But the cold did not stop the giggles. G and S crack themselves (and each other) up and it was hilarious to see them play together. My favorite thing about photographing kids is seeing that pure joy that explodes out of children despite cold or heat or any of the things that bother us as adults. They just want to have fun. Simple. Pure. Joy.

So the last three months have been a whirlwind! I was so busy during the fall and holiday season that the only thing I had time to post on the blog were weddings. However, I had a gazillion great portrait and family sessions too. I will try to catch you all up on all the cuteness over the next few weeks. We'll start with this delicious little guy and his gorgeous big sister. I had a great time with these two and mom and dad this past fall. They are a family that I have loved to get to know over the years and am super excited about another baby on the way!

Patty was one of my very first models when I first began this journey of photography. I hit the jackpot with her. I found a gorgeous Italian woman who had no problem with all my wacky ideas. I believe I drenched her in water at one point and made her wear angel wings in a public park, ha! We have both moved on to different jobs and new phases in our lives. I am so happy we are still in touch. Patty is having a baby and she is more beautiful than ever. I had such a great time with her and Ray (aka Dad). This baby is sure to be a heart breaker with these two as parents.

2011 was a year of great learning for me. This year was my busiest year ever and I am so thankful to all my amazing brides and grooms, parents, and kiddos who made it so successful. First of all, I have learned so much from the weddings that Jon and I photographed this year. There is someone for everyone, as they say, and the way two personalities blend together creates a love unlike any other. It was amazing to see these rare blends reflected on each wedding day and in the images we captured.

This same uniqueness was true in each family I photographed. Each had it's own flavor. The ingredients of each child and parent made each family unlike any other. From the little kid that was a "camera ham" and made my job a breeze, to the independent thinker that made me prove to him that I wanted him to have fun and that the cow puppet on my hand singing "The Wheels of the Bus" was, indeed, hilarious. Each one was so uniquely beautiful and a joy to photograph.

This year taught me that just like families and couples in love, everyone is different. Myself, Jon, our business is unlike anyone else's. In this era of a gazillion photographers it is easy to compare your work and style. It's easy to get sucked in and try to match Facebook and blog posts. To wonder if we need to be more quirky or less quirky or have better packaging, etc. Or to hear about photographers that send people their weddings in one week and feel like all of your clients secretly curse you everyday until they get their photos from you. That they think of you as a control freak and a snail of an editor.

I can't change who I am, but I can try to improve. In 2012, I will try to have a better work flow to get things done more quickly, I will take classes and challenge myself as an artist and bring my clients a fresh eye. I will step away from the computer that was seemingly surgically attached to my right hand this past year and take more time to spend with my little girl who will be facing the tween years way too soon. I will embrace my uniqueness as a person and photographer and try not to compare myself. Each day, I will try to be better than I was the day before. That is all any of us can do.

I am so honored to have photographed Sam's family. They are a family that remembers him always and honors his memory by helping other families facing the dark night of pediatric cancer. Happy Monday everyone! I am so excited to share a few of the images from a bridal shoot featuring the amazing dresses from Big Rock, Little Rooster. These dresses, by designer Jenny Lee, are just stunning. As soon as I saw the dresses I was to photograph, and Erin, our beautiful model, I was in photographer heaven. There was just loveliness all around! The flowers arrangements were designed by Mary from Rose Bredl and the cupcakes compliments of Scarlett from Cupcake Yum Yum. The make up was done by Leighann of Make You LLC. The whole day was planned by Stefanie from Blueshoe Events.

There is some downtown edginess throughout the images mixed with pretty pieces of natural elements. From the natural beauty of the bride to the gluten free goodness of the cupcakes and the garden inspired bouquet bursting with romance, these images epitomize a Columbus bride. I didn't really think of it until I started writing this blog post, but it is totally true! A Columbus bride is a city gal with a loveliness that is down to earth.

Michelle and Brian's Lakeside Wedding-Marietta, Ohio-Wedding Photography

OK, so I could have posted a million photos from Michelle and Brian's wedding. It was so hard to just pick a few! In July, Michelle and Brian were married on Seneca Lake in southern Ohio at Brian's family lake house. Now, if you truly want to experience what their ceremony was like, you should look at all these lovely images while holding a hot hair dryer directly in your face. The heat was intense! It was no joke. But not even the July sun could eclipse the love as Michelle and Brian exchanged their vows. The ceremony was beautifully decorated with so much detail. This wedding was so unique and personal. From the lake house to the city of Marietta-everything was special to this couple. I had a great time exploring the historic small town and capturing all the special moments of Michelle and Brian's wedding day. Jimmy and Julie's Wedding-Springfield, Ohio

So I grew up traveling to my grandma's house in Springfield, Ohio. What I remember of the city includes mostly the the sights from the drive into town: the reservoir, the park where my mom and I would feed the ducks, and Miracle Mile where the flag of Ireland marked the driveway to Grandma's. Obviously, Springfield is more than just these things so it was great to photograph Julie and Jimmy's wedding and explore the town. They were married at St Bernards Church which is beautiful! For photos, we traveled to Snyder Park which is like a mini Central Park right in Springfield (who knew?). Julie and Jimmy love each other and love their friends so this wedding was great fun. It just seemed like everyone there enjoyed everyone there. It was a great party! We wish you love and happiness as sweet as Schuler's doughnuts:)

Let's get married on the beach!-Destination wedding photography-Virginia Beach

When my friend Brandie asked me to photograph her wedding I was happy for many different reasons. I was ecstatic that her long time boyfriend had proposed. I was also thrilled when she told me the wedding would be on the beach. Yeah! So, we all travelled to Virginia Beach to see Brandie and Gaylon get married. They were married on the same beach where he proposed one year before surrounded by friends and family. Family is very important to the couple. One of my favorite moments in the wedding was when Brandie's three brothers walked her down the aisle. It was so special to see each brother take his turn escorting her-a gorgeous symbol of their bond. After the beautiful ceremony on the beach, a trolley took all the guests to the Hilton to celebrate with a live band that kept everyone on their feet. Brandie and Gaylon have such a strong relationship. They both love life and love sharing it with each other. It was great to see this love celebrated in such a memorable way.

She wrote this book to help pre-teen and teen girls discover who they are and what makes them "beautifully unique". I spent a few days photographing a beautiful group of girls ranging in age from 12-16 as they shared their experiences with Debra and each other. Rachel and Matt have been dating since high school. Couples like this always amaze me. They basically grow up together. They transform from kids to adults and still through the evolution that comes with experience they are in love with each other. I love the images of Rachel and Matt's "first look". These images show how excited they truly were to be share the experience of a wedding together. Many couples that have been together for a long time really want to stick to tradition and not see each other. But I think these images show how intimate and special a private moment before the wedding can mean to a couple. They are usually some of my favorite images because there is no way to stage the emotions that the bride and groom feel when they see each other with no one (except me far enough away to give them a little privacy) around. Rachel and Matt's ceremony and reception were held at Brookshire on a warm July evening. They happened to pick the perfect time of day for gorgeous light, so the already stunning couple had amazing light for their photos as well. It was so much fun to be a part of their wedding day!

Keesha and Corey are Married!-Downtown Columbus,Ohio-Wedding Photography

You may remember Keesha and Corey's engagement photos last fall. Their wedding day finally arrived just a few weeks ago. The ceremony and reception were held at the Vault in downtown Columbus. This wedding was such a full experience. It was an overflow of fun, energy and emotion. The ceremony had so many heartfelt moments between Corey and Keesha and their daughter. This was one of the first ceremonies where I have had tears streaming down my face as I was trying to photograph. It was so sweet and genuine. Then the reception was full blast. All the traditional slow dances (as in first dance, etc.) were replaced with high energy dance songs. This crowd was in full celebration mode. As they should have been. Keesha and Corey are a great couple. From all the sincere words at the ceremony to the warm toasts at the reception, it is clear that these two found each other at just the right time.

Sarah and Brian were married on June 17 at Brookshire. They traveled all the way from Texas to celebrate their wedding day with their friends and family. From the images below you would never know that rain almost caused the ceremony to take place inside. Yes, this wedding had a rain delay:) But the sun came out long enough for the ceremony and photos. Yeah! Happy couple, happy photographer.

So you may remember Erin and Brandon's super fun 1940's inspired engagement session last summer. Well this summer their super fun 40's inspired wedding took place! Erin and I became fast friends. She is such a sweet, genuine person. I had the opportunity to see her much more over the past year since Brandon was on deployment with the Navy. The two had a little less than a month together before their June 4th wedding. Brandon actually had to leave for a year of duty the day after their wedding. I can't even imagine how bittersweet certain moments of their wedding must have been. I think it really made them focus on every moment. This could be part of the reason that my very favorite images from Erin and Brandon's wedding were of their ceremony. So many times as a photographer, I plan and plan poses and locations and light. All that planning makes for great images and is so much fun since my job is to make a wedding day look as magical as it feels to the couple. But with Erin and Brandon the quiet moments of them being so happy that this day had finally arrived and that they were actually together were the greatest images of their day. I hope they always feel this deeply in love. We wish Brandon safe return and years of happiness with his beautiful bride!

Justene and Will tied the knot May 28th at Worthington Christian Church with the reception at the stunning Tartan Fields Country Club in Dublin. The look of the day was classic with a burst of color with royal blue bridesmaids dresses and fuchsia blooms provided by Bella Floral Design. Justene and Will have a very sweet intimate relationship. I love the images where they are together as they seemed most themselves when the other was by their side. Isn't that the point of marriage: journeying through this life with a friend and lover that brings out our best self? This couple and their wedding were lovely to say the least. The day was also filled with music. The reception at Tartan Fields was not only filled with the cool jazz sounds of Matt Adams, but Justene's grandpa entertained the crowd with his accordion playing. Finally the bride, a amazing singer, sang a lovely song just for her groom. It was reminiscent of a classic movie. Isn't it romantic....:)

Jackie and Tim's wedding was spectacular to say the least. Check out all the beautiful details below. From the flowers to the personalization on the tables to the brass band that preformed in the lounge late night, this wedding was truly a celebration. There was a nacho bar at 10:30...awesome! Not only was this party great, but Jackie and Tim are a great couple. They truly love each other so much. You can see that they are best friends. No amount of purple flowers in the world can compare to that! Jon and I had a blast working with Jackie and Tim, Joie de Vivre Events and COSI on this wedding. The flowers are from Blooms Direct, the caterer Made from Scratch and the event rental from Lasting Impressions. So this session was very exciting for me because I photographed Sarah and Ron's wedding in 2008 and they are the first of my couples to have a baby! Little E is totally adorable. It was so great to get to know him and reconnect with his parents. Time certainly flies by.... Enjoy!

Michelle and Brian-Engagement Photography-Columbus, Ohio

Michelle and Brian drove all the way from North Carolina for their engagement session. I am so happy that the rain held off for their visit. These two love the outdoors, so a trip to the park with a stream was perfect. Michelle and Brian met on a college trip to Australia. Talk about amazing place to fall in love! They are so sweet together. The first image is one of my favorites. All I did was ask Michelle to hug Brian. What happened was a sweet embrace that lingered. They allowed themselves to actually feel what that hug meant. Their wedding will be on Seneca Lake in July and I am so excited to capture more of their special moments!

I have had the privilege of photographing the Rosan family since their son was a newborn. This family is so special and mom and dad could not be any nicer. I have seen them every spring and fall (and sometimes more) for the past four years, but I have never been in their home. It was great fun photographing little S and his sister in their play room and super fun bedrooms! I was delighted to see all the photos I had taken over the years decorating their home. When I see a portrait I have created hanging above a crib or in a family's stairway, I realize that I have a special job. I get to capture images that will be a part of my clients family memories forever. Check out this dynamic duo. Total cuteness!

Check out these cuties! I have been photographing little C since he was a newborn and it is always so much fun to see how much he has grown. This time were took photos with his older cousin. On this cold Saturday we headed indoors. I had a great time chasing each of them around Franklin Park Conservatory. The boys were running, playing and splashing in the fountain. Yep. They are little boys all the way. In a few years these two are going to be quite a team. Watch out!

Vintage Children's Photography-Worthington, OH

We are back from vacation! Our first family beach vacation was great. I will post pictures very soon. Before I left, I was frantically editing and fulfilling orders and didn't have a chance to blog this amazing vintage session. I photographed the Popp family at their beautiful home in Worthington. I brought a few vintage costume pieces that I had purchased at an antique mall in Springfield. Since you never know what will happen in a children's session, I didn't know if I would even use these props, but after we were done capturing all the great family photos and fun "in my room" portraits we actually had time to play around. Little C and M are so photogenic and have such classic looks they were the perfect models! I was excited to say the least. I could have posted 20 more images that were adorable. M is full of personality and C is like a young Audrey Hepburn. I am a lucky photographer:) Here are some of the images we captured. Enjoy!

March is starting to become one of my favorite months of the year as Charles Penzone Grand Salons always throws an amazing awards show for all of their talented employees. But this year the creations were outrageously high fashion and bursting with imagination! I was in photographer's heaven backstage with the models and stylists. Well these sisters are totally adorable, photogenic and bursting with energy. I tried my best to keep up with them:) We ran outside and inside...they tackled dad, then mom. Yep, they wore me out...but look how much fun we had along the way! I am so happy to have been able to capture these sisters at the very beginnings of the bond of sisterhood. Watch out world! These two are quite a team.

So,we have really great neighbors. They happen to have a really gorgeous four year old and now a new baby. Dad is an amazingly talented musician and sports photographer, so I was very humbled to be asked to photograph his new little one. She is so adorable and alert. I was sure that at 8 days old she would sleep through our session, but nope....wide awake! The sleepy images below only happened when she was trying her hardest to ignore me with my big camera in her face and her excited-about-everything big sister. Once the baby had enough of my demands, big sister E and I took some photos in her room. She had fun jumping around and showing me her stuffed animals. I am lucky to have great neighbors that make such cute kids.

I feel bad that it has taken me awhile to blog about this adorable family because I have been so excited to share these images. This family loves photos. There are photos all over their home. So, I was honored to be the one to be invited in and photograph them all together. Of course the little one ran the show. Little L is 2. She has amazing eyelashes, to-die-for curls and a mind of her own! I had so much fun watching that little mind work. We played, we laughed, we captured some memories that I hope the Mohabir family will cherish for years to come.

So the Levin Family now has a full house with the addition of little E.! I had a blast meeting him and playing with his big brother and sister. These three little characters are so cute it was hard to stop snapping the camera. Three little ones under the age of 6 makes for a really fun time! The are just little bundles full of love and excitement, and big brother A. had that two year old energy that makes for some ridiculously fun images. He definitely made the sibling photos more interesting:) Great home, great kids....great family. I can't wait to be invited back.

On a cold, rainy Ohio day, I had the great pleasure of staying nice and warm inside this growing family's home. We had some fun in mom and dad's room and then traveled downstairs and took some lovely images of mom. C. and A. love their mommy so much. I absolutely love this first image. A. did not want to let mom go for a second. While this may make a mother crazy at 3am, I love that we captured this moment for this family. If little A. turns out anything like my little girl, someday around 7 years old, she won't even want mom to hold her hand around her friends. Cherish this baby love moment while you can, mom. Their new baby is coming in April. Mom and Dad have decided to be surprised about the sex. No matter if it is a boy or a girl, judging from C. and A. this new baby is sure to be a cutie. I can't wait to meet him/her!

So this little guy is so amazingly cute that I think any words that I write on this blog will fall short. I had the great pleasure of photographing little C. with his parents. His lovely mom actually officiated two of my friends weddings. She does an amazing job making a wedding ceremony personal and poetic. And now, she has a little poem of her own:) Just two and half weeks old, C. is already running the show. I was so happy to be able to spend time with this little guy and his parents. I was able to hang out and capture him awake, and yes, (finally!) sleeping. He was Mr. Funny face entertaining his audience while awake and Mr. Angel face when he was sleeping. If you can't tell by all this gushy language, I sort of wanted to take this little guy home with me!

I can't believe this little cutie is one! I first photographed Miss M. as a newborn last year. It has been a great pleasure to see her through all of her first year stages. This past session was one of my very favorites. The sun was actually shinning outside and this baby was so happy! We got some fun images with her collection of Hello Kittys and we even got to dress her up in a cute little tutu! Of course, the finale was when we gave little M. a hot pink cupcake to celebrate her birthday. Now, I have done this shot with quite a few babies and some babies love the cupcake, some hate it, some are just plain confused about what they are supposed to do with the thing. Little M. LOVED it to say the least! But, you can see for yourself below. It was a great big fun, hot pink Saturday morning:)

Watch out Word Girl...Here comes Ella!

When Ella's mom contacted me for this session I was so excited. I had photographed her and her sister a few times before in a studio, but I knew it would be even more fun to photograph them in their own home. Ella is a five year old full of personality. She is so fun to talk to and photograph. During our session, we took pictures with Ella and her baby sister, then in her super cute room and, finally, in her Word Girl costume! Yes, Ella's favorite cartoon is Word Girl so we just had to take some pictures in the outfit. Needless to say, I had so much fun. I could have posted about 100 of my favorites, but I have narrowed it down to the ones below. If I had to sum up Ella in one word, it would be.... "delightful"!

Franklin Park Conservatory-an engagement session- Columbus, Ohio

When the weather is cold and snowy, what better place for an engagement session than the Franklin Park Conservatory! Jade and James are a great couple. Sometimes it is hard for a couple to get comfortable with a camera in their faces. Not these two, they had no problem getting close and playing around. We roamed all around the conservatory and even got to take some images outside. It was a balmy 42 degrees:) We had to get a few shots outside with a basketball since James is a high school basketball coach. It was a great day. I wish Jade and James all the best when they are married in September.

A DAY WITH THE GANG-Family photography in Mt. Vernon, Ohio

A few weeks ago, I traveled through sleet and snow to Mt. Vernon to photography these four cutie pies. Though the roads map quest took me down were slick and unmarked (argh, I have since fixed my GPS!!), I made it! Their house was gorgeous to say the least. Once I saw the chandelier in the dining room, I knew I had to use it in some pictures of the girls. This bunch was full of energy and I had a great time trying to keep up with them. It was an adventure getting there and getting home, but looking at these images makes me realize how fortunate I am to have the job I have and to meet such special people along the way.

A new one...

I started February off with a session with this sweet little guy. All he wanted was to be swaddled and all we kept doing was undressing him. Despite this, mom and I worked together dodging poo and pee and we got some precious images. Ha, ha! What a crazy fun world it is when you have a newborn! I am sure his mom and dad would agree that this little bundle is definitely the best valentine ever:)

I had the great opportunity this week to attend a lighting workshop with some great local photographers. We were all there to take our craft to the next level. I love the look of creative lighting but have to admit that when people start throwing around numbers and kelvins and such I sort of go blank. That is why a textbook or an instructional website only went so far with my numerically challenged brain. It was so much fun to be in an environment where everyone was learning and everyone was really creative. It was educational and also inspiring. The images below are a few of my favorites..... I will definitely be putting my new lighting skills into practice!

My advice for people that want to try something new but are dragging their feet (like me) is to jump in all the way even if it scares you. It will pay off....

National Council for Adoption

In November, Jon and I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Washington DC and photograph the National Council for Adoption's Awards Gala. We were so humbled that we were asked to be a part of an event for such a important organization. The party was so beautiful! The Council did an amazing job making this event so special for the award recipients. What impacted me personally was a presentation that they made half way through the event that highlighted how much work needs to be done to improve the foster care system. I cannot even imagine being totally on my own at eighteen without my family to rely on. This is what happens to many children who are of age and leave the foster care system. The NCFA is an organization that is a champion for these children. If you would like to donate or just be more informed....here is a link to their website:

Kim and Nick get married in Jamaica

So this official blog of Kim and Nick's wedding has been a long time coming. This wedding in Jamaica was a blast to say the least. I had such a hard time just picking a few images to highlight here because the bride and groom and the whole backdrop of Jamaica were so lovely. I worked with Kim and Nick a few years ago and was so happy to be there to see them get married after eight years of dating! Jon and I were so honored to be the ones to capture the day and celebrate with their close friends and family. A couple of days after the wedding we took a few more photos around the resort. Check them out at the very end of this blog. We wish Kim and Nick a million years of love, happiness, and swim-up-bars:)
